War memoirs of Iranian woman published in Cyrillic

TEHRAN -- Seyyedeh Zahra Hosseini’s “Da” has recently been published in Cyrillic script with the help of the Iranian cultural office in Tajikistan.
Transliterated from Persian into Cyrillic by
Seyfullah Molajan, the book contains Hosseini’s recollections when the port city of Khorramshahr was captured in the early days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

Earlier in 2009, the Persian version of the book won a Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award, which is Iran’s most prestigious and lucrative literary award.


Iranian culture minister, Jordanian ambassador meet in Tehran

TEHRAN – Jordanian Ambassador Abdullah Sulaiman Abdullah Abu Romman and Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati met during a ceremony the Embassy of Jordan in Tehran held on Monday afternoon to observe the 69th anniversary of Jordan’s Independence Day.

Ways to strengthen cultural ties between Iran and Jordan were also discussed at the meeting.


Raphael Minaskanian to perform Beethoven piano sonatas

TEHRAN - The prominent Iranian pianist Raphael Minaskanian will perform a repertoire of Beethoven’s piano sonatas at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on June 11.

Minaskanian has performed many concerts in Iran, Armenia, Europe, Canada and the United States over the past three decades.

Between 1795 and 1822, Beethoven wrote 32 piano sonatas, which are widely considered as one of the most important collections in the history of music.


Iranian short films line up for Brazilian festival

TEHRAN – Eight short movies produced by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS) will go on screen at the 26th São Paulo International Short Film Festival, the IYCS announced on Tuesday.

The films are “Cloudy Children” directed by Reza Fahimi, “Silence” by Mehrdad Hassani, “Cut” by Reza Jamali and “The Abandoned Faces” by Ashkan Ahmadi.

The lineup also includes “I Am Old” directed by Adel Tabrizi and Iran Entezam, “Public Memoires” by Shamisa Naseri, “Scarecrows Also Die” by Parviz Rostami and “B+” by Nazir Mirzaii.

The event will be held in the southeastern Brazilian city from August 19 to 30.


Iranian troupe to perform at Swedish biennial

TEHRAN -- Yas-e Tamam, an Iranian theater group led by director Zahra Sabri, will perform two plays in the Swedish Biennial for Performing Arts, which opened in Malmo on Tuesday.

The plays are “The Earth and the Universe”, an adaptation of seven stories taken from Rumi’s “Masnavi”, and “Count to One” based on a Khayyam’s poem.

A number of workshops, seminars and meetings have been arranged for the biennial, which will run until May 31.
